SEI Webinar January 19: CMMI v1.3 and Architecture-Centric Engineering

Wednesday, January 19, 2011
Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM EDT
Cost: Free

Abstract

Architecture modeling is an established practice for the realization of high-quality software. A significant change to the CMMI V1.3 models is the new emphasis on the role of architecture in the design process. This webinar will address the basics of architecture-centric engineering, and where and how these practices are now reflected in the CMMI models.

Topics include

  • What is architecture and why is it important?
  • The role of quality attributes in design
  • Architecture-centric engineering practices and example methods
  • CMMI V1.3 overview
  • CMMI V1.3  model changes that relate to architecture-centric engineering

Register.

About the Speakers

mikekonradDr. Michael Konrad, CMMI Chief Architect, joined the SEI in 1988. Recently, he co-authored an SEI Technical Note titled CMMI or Agile: Why Not Embrace Both!, which was published in November 2008. For the past two years, he served on the team that worked to improve interpretations of the CMMI high-maturity practices. Also, he is a member of the International Process Research Consortium. Previous to CMMI, he was a member of the teams that developed the original Software CMM Version 1.0 (1988-1991) and ISO 15504 (1993-1997).

Before coming to the SEI, he worked with several companies in computer science-related positions, including ISSI, SAIC, and Honeywell and briefly with George Mason University and the University of Maryland. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1978 from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.

LawrenceJonesDr. Lawrence Jones leads the Product Line Practice Initiative at the SEI. He was an original member of the CMMI Product Development Team, and was a key contributor to the CMMI V1.3 updates that include architecture-centric engineering and product line emphasis. He served  in the U.S. Air Force and is the former chair of the computer science department at the Air Force Academy. He is a senior member of the IEEE and ACM, a fellow of both ABET and the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, and a member of the Executive Committee of the ABET Board of Directors.
